What’s the one thing you never expected about the TOKO until you started carrying it?
Well, it was more than one thing, but the first was definitely the weight. Exceptional craftsmanship was something I knew I could expect from Ansø of Denmark, and it was definitely delivered! The clean and minimalistic design spoke to me even before I could handle the TOKO. However, after that, the lightweight design was a very pleasant surprise, especially considering the size.
Next was the milling on the scales—so smooth, making it incredibly satisfying to hold, with a grip that feels secure. It’s by far the best button-lock mechanism I’ve encountered so far.
If you could gift a TOKO to anyone, living or historical, who would it be and why?
After quite some time, I recently started reading more books again. Somehow, I stumbled upon The Book of Five Rings from the 17th century. It is a very interesting and timeless book that I can recommend to anyone.
Therefore, I would gift the TOKO to Miyamoto Musashi, the author of that book and a legendary Japanese swordsman. I believe the TOKO would resonate with his appreciation for functional and well-crafted tools. I would love to see how someone like him would react to a modern folding knife like the TOKO and how it could influence his perspective on craftsmanship and functionality.
What’s the most sentimental piece of EDC gear you own, and why?
Hard to say off the top of my head, but probably my grandfather’s pocket watch, which needs fixing. Therefore, it is not part of my daily carry, but it was his. He got it the day he found out he was going to have a grandson and celebrated by making sure the entire village bar knew it😄
If you could swap EDC setups with anyone for a week, whose would you choose?
I could name a few, but honestly, I wouldn’t want to swap my EDC gear with anyone I know. There are plenty of people with really good setups, but EDC often tells a story, and that’s exactly why I love my gear. Each piece has a story behind it—something I can pick up and remember where I was in life at the time. Like tattoos for some people.
But if I have to give an answer, I’d go with Tony Stark. Imagine a folding knife with AI, a flashlight powered by a miniature arc reactor, or a keychain multitool that could probably fix your car remotely!
How do you organize or display your EDC gear when it’s not in use?
Currently, my EDC gear is either neatly stored in a Knife-Lounge case, organized in a Holme and Hadfield display, or packed in a preloaded pouch sitting in a drawer, ready to grab and go.
Oh—I almost forgot...
💧 Hydrate. It’s not EDC gear, but it’s essential, and you probably need a reminder right now.
Also, listen to Somewhere in Time by Iron Maiden today. It’s the vibe you didn’t know you needed.
