Tools & Materials I Actually Use

Simple tools that make sketching and design more fun – and more precise

Sketching tools

A pen
My favorite: Pilot pen
You don’t need anything fancy – any pen that glides well on paper will do.

Paper
My favorite: A3 sketchpad

I prefer A3 / 11.7”x16.5”  It gives you space to think and move your hand freely. Any artist pad will do but I prefer 90gr paper (thats 41 lb).

Rulers

- French curves

- Hole ruler

- Steel ruler

You don’t need all of them from the start. A straight ruler will get you far.

Everyday tools

Notebook
My favorite: Moleskine A5
Use it for ideas, small sketches, and random inspiration.
The best notebook is the one you actually carry.

Nice to have

Light table, I use a Daylight Wafer 3 Light Pad.

It’s definitely a “nice-to-have” – not a “must”.
I worked without one for almost all of my career, but once I got it, it became part of my daily setup.
